Herbert P. Melton
BLACK MOUNTAIN ? Herbertt Pierce Melton, 65, of Lakey Gap Road, died Saturday, March 4, 1995, in Mountain Area Hospice.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late John W. and Ida Mae Bass Melton. He was a self-employed third generation stone and brick mason. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman, who served as a fishing guide for many years. He was a volunteer with the National Park Service. He attended Lakey Gap Presbyterian Chruch and Open Door Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was preceded in death by a son, Pfc. Wesley E. Melton, who was killed in service in Vietnam; brothers, Bill Melton of Asheville, and Allen Melton of Trenton, Tenn.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Atkins Melton; daughters, Ann M. Wtulich of Grantsboro, Nancy M. Cook of Boulder, Colo.; sons, David Richard Melton of Swannanoa, Herbert Shane and John Timothy Melton of Black Mountain; sister, Frances Ledford of Newport, Tenn.; grandchildren, Eric Petricka, Sara Petricka, Alex Petricka, Joshua Senn and Stevie Senn.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at Lakey Gap Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Parks officiating.
The family will received friends 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 6, at Penland Funeral Home, Swannanoa.
