Joseph Bass
Joseph H. Bass, 49, rural Grand Forks, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, in an automobile accident near Merrifield, N.D.
Joseph Hooker Bass was born March 4, 1952, the son of John and Mary (Rhea) Bass, in Wesson, Miss. He moved to Yazoo, Miss., where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, from 1969 to 1972. He married Candace Tanksley on July 15, 1970, in Inverness, Miss. They moved to Pascagoula, Miss., where he worked for Litton Ship Building. In 1975, he started with the Merchant Marines and was a tugboat captain from 1978 to 1992. He moved to Grand Forks in 1998.
He is survived by daughters, Regina (William) Hinesley, Crestview, Fla., and Michelle, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a son, Joseph Jr. (Sara), Houston; three grandchildren; his mother; a sister, Nida (Charles) Douglas, Yazoo City, Miss.; a brother, John, Yazoo City; and his companion, Jean Koller, Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Billy.
Services: 1 p.m. Friday, Gregory J. Norman Funeral Home, South Washington Street, Grand Forks.
