Kathryn Lee Bass
August 19th, 1950 ? January 16th, 2019
Kathryn Lee Bassett (Kit or Grankat as she was known to family and friends) was born Aug. 19, 1950 to parents Clement John Kressin and Virginia Leigh Harris Kressin in Los Angeles, CA. She joined our Lord in Heaven on Jan. 16, 2019 in Lafayette, CO after a devastating fall at her home in Thornton, CO.
Kit was raised in San Diego, CA and graduated from Granite Hills High School in 1968. She attended college at USIU California Western campus graduating in 1972 with a BA in education. In 1998 she obtained her Master of Education in Cross-cultural Teaching at National University and enjoyed a 25-plus year teaching career in elementary education until her retirement in 2005. After retiring she continued to teach Sunday School and Vacation Bible School classes at Fletcher Hills Presbyterian Church in El Cajon where she also served as a Deacon.
Cherished daughter, beloved wife, fantastic mother, wonderful sister, caring aunt, true friend, dedicated teacher and best grandmother ever! She approached these roles with compassion, organization, dedication and a huge heart.
Kit?s passion in life was God, family, her two grandchildren, animals and travel. Her love for her church and the Lord was a light for all to see. Her marriage to Dick and raising their daughter Tara was the center of her world. Her two grandchildren, Alijah and Maya Sanders, were a dream come true. Animals were ingrained into her sprit, especially cats. She volunteered at Lions, Tigers and Bears (a wild animal sanctuary in San Diego County) as well as supported the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Safari Park. Her dream trip was to Africa where she became part of the animal kingdom on three safaris.
Kit was active in numerous organizations including Fletcher Hills Presbyterian Church, San Diego Republican Women, San Diego Cotillion, California PTA, Book Club, Lions Tiger and Bears rescue sanctuary, San Diego Zoological Society and Beta Gamma Gamma.
Kit is survived by her husband Dwight D. Bassett (Dick), her daughter Tara Leigh Bassett Sanders, her son-in-law Abraham John Sanders, her two beautiful grandchildren Alijah Jaden Sanders and Maya Leigh Sanders, her sister Jeri Slaughter and brother Kurt Kressin of Mountain Home Arkansas.
Kit touched the lives of many people and has family and friends across the United States. With a high concentration of people in both Colorado and Southern California, we thought it would be nice to celebrate her in both places. Please find details below and feel free to share this information with others who would like to celebrate Kit?s life. You are welcome to attend either or both of these gatherings.
?If there ever comes a day when we can?t be together, keep me in your heart, I?ll stay there forever.? ? Winnie the Pooh
In lieu of flowers, gifts to Lions, Tigers and Bears or the San Diego Zoo in memory of Kit would be greatly appreciated.
