Services Held Monday For Oliver C. Bass
Oliver Clifton Bass, 76, died at his home on route 2 Ava, Friday, May 22, after a month?s illness and funeral services were conducted Monday morning at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Johnny Moles, assisted by the Rev. Mas Morris, officiated. Burial was in the Ava cemetery.
Mr. Bass, who had lived on his Ava farm for six years, moved here from Bradleyville. He had lived in Bradleyville for two years after moving from Arizona.
The son of John and Mary Bozeman Bass, he was born Feb. 7, 1883, at Prentiss, Miss. He was married on Nov. 21, 1906, at Prentiss, Miss., to Della May Griffith who died Nov. 11, 1947, and on Oct. 29, 1949, was married to Mary E. Coon, who survives.
Surviving children by his first marriage are: John M. Bass and Ford O. Bass, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; Mrs. Kenneth Martin and Mrs. Naoma Machen, both of Chandler, Ariz.; B. Hiram Bass of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Mrs. Oft Hopkins of Albuquerque, N.M.; Mrs. Hilton Shepherd of Wichita, Kan.; Pat H. Bass of Alando, Fla., and Mrs. Elane Barnette of Grenada, Miss. Two step-daughters, Mrs. Chester Miller of Harrison, Ark., and Mrs. Ruth Gossett of Grants, N.M.
Also surviving are: A brother, Buford Bass of Prentiss, Miss.; 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A daughter preceded him in death.
Mr. Bass was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ava.
