Robert Donald Bass, age 85, of Wilmington, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2006. He was born on May 29, 1920, the son of the late Lewis Guilford Bass and Florence Everett Bass. He was preceded in death by brothers, Guilford Bass of Jacksonville, FL, William E. Bass and Lindsey Bass of Wilmington; and a sister, Elizabeth Bass Hyatt of Hazelwood, NC. Robert was a proud veteran of the US Army serving during WW II with the Headquarters and Base Service Squadron of 484th Air Service Group, serving in England, France, and Germany. He was a graduate of Rollins College in Winter Park, FL, and did a year of post graduate studies in Paris, France, at the American International Institute of Foreign Affairs. He was employed for many years at the Kennedy Space Center. Upon returning to Wilmington, he worked as the Registrar at Cape Fear Community College until he retired in 1982. Robert was a member of St. Andrews Covenant Presbyterian, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and the B.P.O.E, #532. He was a Charter member of the New Hanover Cotillion Dance Club and a long standing member of The Cotillion Dance Club. He aided in establishing Ballroom Dances for Senior Citizens. He loved to perform ballroom dancing and playing the ?spoons.? He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary P. (Betty) Bass; daughter, Helen Ann Keuning of Satellite Beach, FL; one grandson, Dr. Duane Keuning and wife Kiri of Jupiter, FL; and granddaughter, Dana Keuning of Las Vegas, NV, and great-granddaughter, Lily Morgan Keuning; step sons, Robert Case of Raleigh, Jack Case and wife Nancy of Maggie Valley, and Billy Case and wife Karen of Maggie Valley; step daughter, Linda Case of Decatur, GA; step grandsons, Willie Case and Jeremy Case of Maggie Valley; nephews, Guilford Bass and wife Janet of Holden Beach and John Robert Bass of FL; nieces, Caroline Benson of Wilmington, Beth Wyatt, Emily Weaver and Lillian Ourfalian, all of Hazelwood, NC. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2006, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
