Esther Kopaska Bassett
Esther Kopaska Bassett, 71, of Eldridge, died Sunday, October 7, 2007, at Genesis East, Davenport.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Park View Lutheran. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today at Chambers, Eldridge.
She was born February 22, 1936, in Iowa to Everett and Opal Herron Kopaska. She married Dean Bassett June 5, 1955.
Surviving are her husband; daughter, Colleen Holland, Bloomington, Indiana; son, Dr. Mark Bassett, Birmingham, Alabama; three granddaughters, Brittany Holmes, Sabrina Holmes, Shelby Bassett; four sisters; one brother.

Esther Kopaska Bassett, 71, a resident of Eldridge, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Park View Lutheran Church, Park View, Iowa, where she was a member. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday (today) at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge. Contributions in her memory may be made to Park View Lutheran Church. She was born on February 22, 1936, in Guthrie Center, Iowa, the daughter of Everett and Opal (Herron) Kopaska. She married Dean Bassett on June 5, 1955, in Casey, Iowa. Esther was a registered nurse, employed at the former St. Luke's Hospital in Davenport. In the late 1970's she was the director of nursing of St. Anthony's Care Center in Rock Island. Esther also enjoyed a long and notable career in the arts and crafts business. In addition to her husband of 52 years, Dean Bassett, she is survived by a daughter, Colleen (Larry) Holland, Bloomington, Indiana; and a son, Dr. Mark Bassett, Birmingham, Alabama. She iis also survived by three granddaughters, Brittany Holmes, Bettendorf; Sabrina Holmes, Bloomington, and Shelby Bassett, Birmingham. She also leaves sisters Marie Godren, Menlo, Iowa; Evelyn (George) Tonelli, Montrose, Iowa; Bessie Arbs, West Des Moines, Iowa; and Eleanor (Richard) Mayavski, Rice, Minnesota; and her brother, Jerry (Donna) Kopaska, Adair, Iowa. Additional survivors include her in-laws, Glen (Roma) Bassett, Clive, Iowa; Merle (Darlene) Bassett, Casey; and Myrna Whetstone, Casey. Also left to mourn her passing are many nieces and nephews.
