ELDRIDGE-Funeral services for Dean Franklin Bassett, 85, of Eldridge, Iowa, will be 11:00 am on Thursday at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, Iowa. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery, Davenport. Family will greet friends on Thursday from 10:00 am to service time at the funeral home.
Dean passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Dean was born on March 19, 1936 in Casey, Iowa, the son of John and Augusta (Luhrs) Bassett. He graduated from Casey High School in 1954. He then married Esther Kopaska on June 5, 1955 in Casey, Iowa. She preceded him in death on October 7, 2007.
He owned Dean Bassett Incorporated, an International Harvester Dealer, Eldridge, Iowa. He then worked as a school administrator for North Scott Schools and served as past president of the North Scott School Board. He was a member of Parkview Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing golf, watching University of Iowa and North Scott High School sports and woodworking.
He was a member of the North Scott High School Hall of Fame and was a member of the North Scott Booster Club.
Survivors include his daughter; Colleen (Larry) Holland of Bloomington, Indiana and a son; Dr. Mark Bassett of Frederick, Maryland. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Brittany Harman of Davenport, Iowa, Sabrina Holmes of Bloomington, Indiana, Dr. Shelby Bassett of Shreveport, Louisiana, sister; Myrna Whetstone of Casey, Iowa, brother; Glen Bassett of Clive, Iowa and companion Mary Duval of Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother; Merle Bassett.
