  Notes	EVA WILLEY BASSETT The Republican Press, Butler, Missouri, 28 Jan 1921 Mrs. Eva Willey Bassett was born in Bates County, Missouri, August 22, 1872. She was the daughter of Gideon and Catherine Willey. Her parents came to Bates County in 1870 from Berrion County, Michigan. She grew up here and was united in marriage to Dexter D. Bassett, April 18, 1900 and to this union was torn three children, Helen, who died in infancy; two sons who with their father survive to mourn her loss. The sons are Dexter Dillard who is in his 19ty year and Lloyd L. who is in his 18th year. Mrs. Bassett had been in failing health for 4 or 5 years. She tried hard to regain her health but to no avail. She traveled last summer with her husband and family they went to Hot Springs, Ark, then to Colorado Springs, Colorado thence west as far as she could stand the journey. Then they returned to Bates County, Missouri where she had the best care and medical treatment that could be given her up until the time that the family was stricken with the smallpox and placed under quarantine, which practically left only the family, and they were down with the smallpox, to care for her, but with the aid of Mrs. Blankenbaker and her two sisters she was cared for the best they could. She suffered great pain but she bore it with good cheer. She was always a kind and loving mother true to her family and friends. January 18 1921 she passed peacefully away with just her two sisters and brother-in-law Wm Blankenbaker and her own family at her bedside. Mr. Bassett was just able to sit up having been very sick with the smallpox. She leaves besides her husband and two sons, four sisters to mourn their loss. They are Mrs. R. B. Wix of Butler, Mrs. Daidie Hancock, Mrs. Addie Thomas, Mrs. Wm Blankenbaker, all living in Bates County, Missouri. She was laid to rest beside her father and mother in the Rogers Cemetery in Pleasant Gap township near her old home. A host of friends were at the cemetery to pary their last respects to a loving friend and neighbor. A post mortem held by her request revealed the fact that death was due to carcoma.
