Nancy (Bassett) Rehfus (1931-2016) (Picture included)

Nancy Bassett Rehfus was born in Monroe, Michigan on June 26, 1931. She was one of two daughters born from the union of the late Lewis J. and the late Elizabeth A. (Norton) Bassett. Nancy was in the graduating class of 1948 from Monroe High School, and continued her education at Michigan State University. On October 6, 1951 she married the love of her life, Richard Rehfus.
Nancy had been a member of Town and Country Garden Club since the 1970s and served as both president and vice president in the past. She was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church and was also involved with many of the Jefferson School faculty wives. She was the director and teacher at the Monroe YMCA Cooperative Nursery for over thirty years and a volunteer at the hospital for nine years. She had friends everywhere and she will be remembered by all for her wonderful long friendships. Nancy believed in the old-fashioned practice of writing notes of thoughtfulness to others, and family and friends were always happy to be the recipient of these. She loved being at the family cabin up north in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Nancy Rehfus, age 85, of Monroe, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 9, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband: Richard in 2004; and sister: Camilla Carey.
To cherish her memory, Nancy leaves her sons: Mark Rehfus of Plymouth and Craig Rehfus of Monroe; daughters: Laurie (Dave) Wujczyk of Novi and Nanette (Rod) Crawford of Monroe; grandchildren: Ashley (Bryon) Linder, Katie and Max Wujczyk, and Lindsay and Meagan Crawford; great-grandson: Cooper; many dear nieces, nephews, and friends; and her faithful canine companion for the last eleven years: Hunter.
