The Death of the Venerable Soin Bass of Old Age This Morning
This morning, at 2 o?clock, occurred the death of Mr. Sion Bass, the father of Hon. J.H. Bass, at his suburban home, on South Calhoun street. Mr. Bass was born November 9, 1802, and for years has been one of the prominent and esteemed residents of our city, and his sons have been closely identified with its commercial greatness. He was eight-six years of age and leaves an honorable record and a host of friends to mourn his death.
Mr. Bass was born in North Carolina and when five years old went to Kentucky, where he lived until 1866 when he removed to this city. He was reared a family of four children, of who two, Mrs. W. B. Smith and Mr. J.H. Bass, of this city, survive. One of his dead children was the lamented Col. Sion R. Bass.
The funeral will take place Saturday, at 2 p.m., form the residence of his daughter, Mrs. W.B. Smith, on South Calhoun street.
