Mildred L. Bassett
Mildred L. 'Millie' (Wainwright) Bassett of Columbus passed away into God's loving and eternal care on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Samaritan Inpatient Hospice in Mount Holly. She was 79.
Born in Florence Township on her family's farm, she had been a Columbus resident since 1979. Millie was a homemaker but in her earlier years worked as a school aid in Burlington Township, and also operated her own fabric and goods store, Stitch and Sew in Florence, where she also did custom sewing.
She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Columbus and was treasurer of the United Methodist Women for 34 years. She also attended Hedding United Methodist Church and Chesterfield Baptist Church.
Millie was a longtime member of the Columbus Grange #58.
Some of her interests in life were cooking, baking, couponing, enjoying music and going to yard sales. She was most passionate about sewing. She did sewing for clients and made many articles of clothing for family and friends.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Sr. and Wilhelmina 'Billie' Hertzman Wainwright, and her siblings, Robert Wainwright, Louise Mingin, Theodore Wainwright and Wilhelmina 'Bootie' Sahol.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ralph Donald Bassett; her sons, Barry Bassett and Timothy Bassett (Kathleen), all of Columbus; her daughter, Susan Simmons (Michael) of Venice, Fla.; and her grandchildren, Emily, Kaylin, Matthew and Noah. She is also survived by her brothers, Fred 'Fritz' Wainwright Jr. (Jean) and Marvin Wainwright (Eileen); brothers-in-law, Andy Sahol and Lee Bassett (Carol Ann); sister-in-law, Cynthia Scott; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Relatives and friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m., Sunday evening, at the Dennison Funeral Home, 214 W. Front Street, Florence, and from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 13 at the Hedding United Methodist Church, Hedding, N.J. Interment will be held in Columbus Cemetery.
