Mrs. Willis Woodruff
The death of Fannie Pope Woodruff came as a great shock to the whole community, though we knew of her serious illness which began some two weeks ago. It did not seem that we could spare her, she was such a help in the church and community. In the Sabbath school she was an earnest and devoted teacher, in the Ladies? Society she was a very active member, in her home she left no task untired that would in any way conduce to the comfort of the family. She was the daughter of Horatio and Angeline Pope, and was born in Hartsville township, Dec. 11, 1861, and was the fifth one in a family of eight, one brother and six sisters. These survive her except the parents and the oldest sister.
She was converted and joined the Hartsville Seventh-day Baptist church when she was thirteen years of age, and transferred her membership to the second Alfred Seventh-day Baptist church in October, 1896, and has been a most faithful member.
In December 1890, she was united in marriage to Willis R. Woodruff and to them were born two sons: William Pope, and Charles Eldin, who survive her. She passed to her peaceful home the evening after the Sabbath, April 22d, 1905.
The funeral services were held at the church, April 25th, and a large company of relatives and friends filled the church to its full capacity. The society to which she belonged was there in a body. Her Sabbath school class of little girls drew us afresh to tears as they filed past the casket and each dropped a carnation within.
The music was rendered by the regular church choir of twenty voices. The service was conducted by Pastor Sayre assisted by Elder B.F. Rogers. The whole community join in their sympathy for the lonely father and his boys, and wish them the richest of heaven?s blessings. C.S.S.
