Frederick Charles Bassett

Frederick Charles Bassett, Teacher of Deportment and Dancing, Burleigh
Street. Mr. Bassett was born in Deptford, England, and is a son of the late
Mr. Alfred Bassett, a well-known artist of Auckland, who came to the Colony
per ship "Pegasus", when the subject of this notice was but eighteen months
old. Mr. Bassett received instruction from Mrs. Fitzgerald, of Symonds Street,
and acquired the art thoroughly. He has now been teaching for the past
fourteen years, with an average of fully 100 pupils per season, and he holds
numerous testimonials and references from his past pupils. Mr. Bassett has
taught some of the best dancers that grace the ballrooms of Auckland, all of
whom have been thoroughly pleased with the attention and courtesy that has
been shown them whilst undergoing instruction. He receives a number of pupils
at his residence for private lessons. His elementary classes are held every
Wednesday in the Victoria Hall, which Mr. Bassett engages from season to
season. Socials are held monthly, with a grand fancy dress ball at the close
of the season, and have been very favourably commented on by the press. Mr.
Bassett is ably assisted by his wife, who is a daughter of Mr. T.E. Powley, of
Mount Eden.
