Barbara Bassett (1937-2016)
Barbara Bassett, 79, of Girard passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at the Oakview Estates of Frontenac, Kansas.
She was born January 28, 1937 in Girard, Kansas, a daughter of Orville and Helen (Sparks) Van Ness.
Barbara grew up in Girard and attended schools there; graduating from the Girard High School.
On November 27, 1957, Barbara was united in marriage to Donald N. Bassett; he preceded her in death on February 17, 2006.
Barbara was employed as a secretary with the E.N.I. Company of Bellevue, Washington and the City of Bellevue. She and Donald later moved back to Girard where they enjoyed their retirement years.
She enjoyed bowling and shopping.
Barbara is survived by three daughters, Pam Geslicki and husband Mike of Denison, Iowa, Kelley Ragland of Paamul, Mexico, Sharon Olsen of Pendleton, Oregon, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Jack VanNess.
Services for Barbara Bassett will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 10th at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home of Girard. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 9th from 6 till 7 at the funeral home. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home after 1:00 p.m., Tuesday.
