LIMA ? Clarence M. Kersker Jr., age 90, was called home to the Lord at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017, surrounded by the love of his family at his home.
Clarence was born July 16, 1927 in Lima, Ohio to the late Clarence M. and Katherine H. (Johnson) Kersker Sr. On February 2, 1947 he married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy L. (Bassitt) Kersker who survives in Lima. They had celebrated 70 wonderful years of marriage.
Clarence was a 1945 graduate of LaFayette - Jackson High School. After high school he proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII. He volunteered as Assistant Chief for the Bath Fire Department for many years, had previously worked at Standard Oil and retired from Buckeye Pipeline. A member of the greatest generation, Clarence had an unwavering love for God, country, and family. He was a jack of all trades and enjoyed tinkering in his basement, building furniture and repairing electronics for his family and friends. Clarence was a Ham Radio Operator and belonged to the Lima Amateur Radio Club. Most of all he was a devoted husband, dad and grandfather whose greatest joy was his family.
He is blessed with a family who loved him dearly, wife, Dorothy L. Kersker of Lima; children, Donald E. Kersker who preceded him in death on July 18, 2010, Janice L. (Edgar L.) Hauenstein of Montpelier, David L. (Debra K.) Kersker of Port Charlotte, FL; daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Kersker of Harrod; grandchildren, Todd M. Kersker, Tammy M. (Gene) Sedlacek, Taffy M. (Scott) Colley, Troy M. (Lisa) Kersker, Rhonda L. (Chuck) Bryan, Diane M. (Andrew) Brehm, Debra M. Koehler, Renee A. (Bruce) Crowl, Edgar D. (Ralna) Hauenstein, Bryan L. (Michelle) Kersker; 23 great - grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren.
Other survivors include his sister, Betty Bassitt of Sebring, FL and sister-in-law, Rita Kersker of Lima.
In addition to his parents and his son he is preceded in death by a Grandson, Jerald E. Hauenstein; brothers, Richard and Jack Kersker and sister, Barbara Carmen.
Funeral services will begin 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 20, 2017, at CHILES - LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Pastor Dave Stanford will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by VFW #1275 and the United States Navy.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m,. Sunday, November 19, at the funeral home.
