Tells of Engagement To “Ted” Meredith
Luncheon Reveals Miss Matilda A. Bassett as Aviator’s Fiancee
Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Bassett, of 4312 Osage Street, announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Matilda A. Bassett, at a luncheon, yesterday, to Mr. James E. Meredith, better known as “Ted” Meredith, former athlete and captain in the army aviation section. There were thirty guests.
“Ted” Meredith and his fiancée have been friends for some time. Captain Meredith returned from overseas in January and since his discharge from the service has been devoting his time to study commercial exchanging and exporting.
Mr. Meredith was one of the first college men in athletic circles to enter military service at the beginning of the war. His service abroad was in the observation section close to the front lines.
Miss Bassett, who had been living in New York for the past year and half, only returned to this city on Friday.
