Mrs. Cleveland Gregory Bassett
Mrs. Cleveland Gregory Bassett, 63, the former Nellie Augusta Lewis of Danbury, died at her home, 14 Gilbert Street, Ridgefield, Thursday morning. She had been in failing health for the past year and in critical condition the past few weeks. Born in Danbury July 16, 1889, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Adelle Hyatt Lewis. She married Mr. Bassett 45 years ago and they made their home in Ridgefield since that time. She was a member of St. Stephens' Church and its women auxiliary, and was a past noble grand of Mary Rebekah Lodge and a past matron of Mamanasco Chapter O.E.S. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Howard L. of Ridgefield, Francis J. of Wayne, Pennsylvania, Cleveland G. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a daughter Mrs. Curtiss Temper Dyke, Jr. of Ridgefield; a brother John Lewis of Danbury; five grandchildren and one nephew. The body was removed to the Tomlison Homestead, Danbury, and will repose at her home where friends may call this afternoon and evening. The funeral will be conducted at St. Stephens' Episcopal Church Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Aaron Maderback, rector, officiating. Burial will be in the family plot in Mapleshade cemetery Ridgefield.
