Sentiment Surrounds Gown Worn by Mr. Bassett?s Bride
An aura of sentiment surrounds the ivory brocaded satin gown worn by Miss Marilyn Jean Nelson of Rochester for her marriage to James Van Inwagen Bassett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kingman Bassett of Depew Ave., at 3 o?clock this afternoon.
The Rev. Robert H. Stromberg performed the ceremony in white-gladioli-decorated St. Paul?s Lutheran Church, Procter, Vt.
A reception was given by the bride?s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sven Nelson of Proctor, in Mountain Top Inn, Chittenden, Vt.
The gown previously was worn by the bridegroom?s sisters, Mrs. Russell Barr McKillen of Toledo, O.; Mrs. Paul U. Bretschger and Mrs. Edward F. McGinley III, and also by his sister-in-law, Mrs. Kingman Bassett, at their marriages.
Styled on fitted lines with tiny self-covered buttons on the basque, the dress has a full skirt and court train. Seed pearl embroidery accents the pattern of the brocade. Facing the neckline is rose point lace which the bridegroom?s father brought to his mother after World War I.
A cap of matching lace held a fingertip illusion veil. The bride carried a cascade of white pompons, gladioli and stephanotis.
Mrs. Donald W. Anderson of Upper Montclair, N.J., cousin of the bride and matron of honor, wore a blue, sheer, waltz-length gown. A circular panel fell from a bow at the back of the Empire waistline. She chose a velvet Alsatian bow headpiece and a cascade bouquet of yellow and bronze-color pompons.
In ensembles of the same style in a blending shade of blue the other attendant were Mrs. Robert I. Bergreen of Allegany, a classmate of the bride in Elmira College, and Miss Louise B. Olney, Hartford, Conn.
Ensign William B. Bassett, USN, whose marriage took place in Washington, Aug. 11, was best man for his brother.
Ushers were Kingman Bassett and Mr. McKillen. Alison N. Anderson of Upper Montclair was flower girl, and William M. Bretschger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bretschger, a page boy.
The bride?s mother chose a rose-color silk organza dress with Chantilly lace applique over mauve taffeta. She wore white accessories and wine-color pompons.
The bridegroom?s mother favored a toast-color lace, sheath-style dress with toast-color accessories and brimmed hat of jade-green velvet. She wore yellow glamellias.
For traveling to Canada the bride selected a black and brown plaid sheath jacket dress and white pompons. The couple will be at home Sept. 16 in Ithaca where the bridegroom is studying hotel management in Cornell University.
