      Don Carlon Bassett, beloved spouse, father, and grandfather passed away on February 7, 2018 at the age of 70. Carlon was born on July 13, 1947 in Prairie Grove, Arkansas and was of the Baptist Faith.

      Carlon was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Ora Virginia Bassett. He is survived by his wife Cheryl Bassett of Lowell; son John Bassett of Fayetteville; daughter Jennifer Bassett of Fayetteville; daughter Meredith Bassett of Lowell; grandson Konnor Sumbaugh and granddaughter Presli Stumbaugh, both of Fayetteville. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Madison, (Phil ?Gumbo? Madison) of Fayetteville, two brothers Lonnie Bassett (Diane Bassett) of Fayetteville and Leland Bassett (Marybeth) of Fort Smith and numerous nieces and nephews.

      Carlon grew up attending Fayetteville Schools and graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1965 with honors. He would then go on to graduate with honors from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science and Business Administration and a Masters of Business Administration. Carlon graduated from ROTC as a 1st Lieutenant and was stationed at Fort Bliss Army base in El Paso, Texas, after which he served in the reserves.

      He was a CPA for Peat Marwick Mitchell in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for 7 years. He was selected to write level 3 for the firm and was transferred to New York for 18 months to achieve this work. He then taught the course for one year in many locations including Hawaii.

      Carlon moved back to Fayetteville and he worked for Bob Gaddy, CPA firm. He helped his father with his various businesses including real estate. Carlon loved country music. His favorite performer was Johnny Cash, whom he had the pleasure of meeting at Hillbilly Holler in Springdale. In 1981, he started his entertainment career by opening the ?Y?all Come Back Saloon?. He had great success in the entertainment industry including Norma Jeans, Doc Murdocks, Club 620, and the Oasis Comedy Club. He hosted many great entertainers including Garth Brooks, George Strait, Clint Black, Rodney Carrington, Bellamy Brothers, Earl Thomas Conley, John Anderson and Rascal Flatts to name a few.

      Carlon was a controller for Roll Off Trash Service and then worked at Simmons Bank until he retired in 2014.

      Carlon will be remembered most for his love and devotion to his wife, children and his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

      There will be a visitation at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home on Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 1:00-3:00p.m. A funeral service to celebrate Carlon?s life will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 2:00p.m. at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home.
