Robert E. Bassett, Jr., 80, of Portsmouth, passed away at home on Sunday, September 11, 2022. He was the husband of Gwendolyn Bassett. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Miriam (Gilbody) Bassett and Robert E. Bassett. Bobby served in the Coast Guard in his early years and was a retired mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. He loved to fish, help out and spend time at the Portuguese American Social Club and frequent Foxwoods.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Laura Jeanne Verdecchia and her husband Alan P. Verdecchia of Coventry, David J. Bassett and Jason J. Bassett both of Cranston, and a stepdaughter Myra Thompson of Atlanta, GA. He also leaves behind six beloved grandchildren, Amanda Bassett, Kayla Verdecchia, Tori Bassett, Brittany Verdecchia, Liam Bassett and Samia-Grace Thompson. He was the brother of David J. Bassett of Idaho, Cathleen Hunter of Warwick, Judith Basset of Providence and the late Rodney Bassett.
