      Dorothy Bassett Miller

      EAST HARWICH - Dorothy Bassett Miller, of East Harwich, MA died Monday, March 18, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was 98. She was the devoted wife of the late Irving Gould Miller, Jr.

      Dorothy was born in Canaan, CT to William D Bassett and Elizabeth Sigler Bassett. She attended the Dobbs Ferry NY Schools followed by the Lenox Hill Hospital School of Nursing. She lived in Greenville, RI previously and settled full-time in the late 1970's.

      In 1944, Dorothy enlisted in the Army Air Force and began serving a 2 year tour as an Air Force flight nurse during WWII. She became a life time member of the WWII Flight Nurse's Association, planning events for the organization. In addition, she belonged to the Cape Cod Chapter of the Retired Military Officers Association of Cape Cod.

      Dorothy was a member of the Harwich Artist Guild, supporter of the Albro House in Harwich, and Past President of the Rhode Island Mothers of Twins Club- Northern Chapter and a former member of the Brewster Baptist Church.

      Dorothy is survived by her son Garrison Dwight Miller of North Wales, PA, and by her two daughters Patricia G. Whalen of Harwich, MA, and Jacqualyn M. Anderson of Solomons, MD. Dorothy also leaves a sister, Jane Schmidt of Ocala, FL in addition to six Grandchildren: Russell L. Anderson, III, Robert C. Whalen, III, and Scott T. Whalen; Elizabeth S. Anderson, Jamie B. Whalen, and Elizabeth C. Miller and seven Great Grandchildren as well as several Nieces and Nephews. Dorothy is predeceased by her brother John Bassett and her two sisters Phyllis Hansen and Barbara Bamber.

      Dorothy will be laid to rest with her husband Irving, also a US Veteran, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery on Friday April 12 at 11:00 am.
