Dawn B. Miller, 77, of Troy, Pa., passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2017 at the Sayre Healthcare Center.
Born April 12, 1939 in Canton, Pa., Dawn was the only daughter of the late Marletta (Rhodes) and James Ardell Bassett. She graduated from Canton High School with the class of 1957.
Dawn enjoyed her work as a caregiver for the elderly and at Martha Lloyd Community Services in Troy. An outgoing, strong-willed person, Dawn told it as she saw it and usually got what she wanted. She also often was a person to give help to someone in need. Dawn loved children. She was an avid horsewoman from an early age and cared about the welfare of all animals.
Surviving are her four children, Leslie (Bill) Ellsworth of Troy, Kevin (Brenda) Hicks of Columbia Cross Roads, William (Treena) Miller of Durell, and Michael (Candyce) Hicks of Oneonta, Ala.; 11 grandchildren, Robert and Gerald Hicks, John W. Dowling, Cynthia Collins, Sadie and Brooke Miller, Kevin "J.R.," Sheena and Angela Hicks, Lisa and Kahleen Hicks; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; a brother, Garry Bassett of Muncy; many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Cathy; a son, Gregory; and two brothers; Larry Bassett and Mike Bassett.
Calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Drive, Canton. Pastor Dylan Pepper will officiate the funeral and committal services at 11 a.m., followed by burial in Grover Cemetery. Share condolences at www.pepperfuneralhomes.com.
