Burton Bassett Dies From Accident Injuries
Burton Bassett, 22, of Montpelier, died in the Cameron Hospital here Thursday morning at one o?clock from injuries received Saturday night in which he sustained a crushed leg and had cuts on the other leg. Bassett who was a brakeman on the Wabash Railroad, was at work switching trains in the yards, and is thought to have jumped from a car into the path of another car on an adjoining track. He was brought to the hospital here where it was found necessary to amputate the one leg. Gangrene developed on Monday in the other leg causing his death Thursday.
Mr. Bassett was the son of the late Ora Bassett, former Agnola resident, who died in Montpelier two and half years ago.
Burton Ora Bassett
Burton Ora Bassett, son of Ethel Mae Shaffer and Ora Burton Basset, was born at Angola, Ind., Dec. 26, 1919, and passed away Oct. 1, 1942.
He was united in marriage to Georgia Faye Caosper, Oct. 1, 1940, and to his union was born one daughter, Nanette, on Oct. 12, 1941.
Those left to mourn his passing include his wife and daughter; a sister, Georgene Bassett of St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandparents, Mrs. Florence Bassett, of Ray, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Shaffer, of Angola; aunts and uncles include Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Bassett, of Angola, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Marks, Auburn, Mr. and Mrs. Al Pierce, of Detroit, Mich.
Burton was a faithful and loyal employee of the Wabash railroad since June 27, 1941.

Georgia F. Bassett
Georgia F. Bassett, 80, died Sunday at home. Born in Montpelier, she owned and operated Nanette Beauty Shop in Montpelier for thirty years. She was an inspector from Powees & Sons Inc. in Montpelier, retiring in 1982 after ten years. Her husband, Burton O. died in 1942. Surviving are a son, Burton A. Sr. of Bryan; a daughter, Nanette Mitchell of Montpelier; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home, Montpelier. Calling from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier. Memorials to Hospice of Community Hospitals of Williams County.
