State Rep. Tim Brown, R-Bowling Green, announced late Wednesday that he is resigning his position as state representative to assume the presidency of the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments.
Brown said that while the details were still being worked out, his first day would probably sometime in mid-July. ?The speaker of the house will at some point in the future address filling the vacancy,? Brown said.
According to a letter released by Brown, he was offered the position of president. TMACOG is a nonpartisan, voluntary planning partnership made up of members in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. It serves as the primary clearinghouse for transportation and environmental planning for the region. TMACOG members include cities, counties, villages, townships, special districts and authorities, and nongovernmental organizations.
Brown said, ?I look forward to this new challenge and the opportunity it presents me to continue my service to .you and our region.
?While I will no longer continue to serve as your representative in the Ohio Legislature, I will continue to serve the citizens of Wood County and the Toledo Metropolitan area in our region?s council of governments.?
Brown, 53, assumed office in January 2013, succeeding Randy Gardner, who is now state senator for the 2nd District. Brown defeated Democrat Kelly Wicks and Libertarian Nathan Eberly to win the seat. He formerly served as Wood County Commissioner.
He is a 1986 Bowling Green State University graduate with a bachelor?s degree in business.
In his letter, Brown said, ? I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your years of support, and the trust you placed in me to serve in public office. Participating in our nation's great democracy will be among the highlights of my life!
?Public service is an honorable calling and I could not be more humbled by the support you and so many others have shown me over the years.?
Brown will be replacing Tony Reams as the president of TMACOG. Reams had previously announced that he would be resigning in July 2016. Brown will become only the fifth permanent top officer of TMACOG since 1968.
