Dr. Clyde Bass
Live Oak - Dr. Clyde Bass of Live Oak died Saturday at Shands Hospital at Live Oak after a short illness. He was 89.
Dr. Bass was born in Live Oak. He was a veterinarian and a farmer, who earned a bachelor's degree in agriculture from the University of Florida in 1933 and earned a doctorate in veterinarian medicine from Alabama Polytechnic Institute - now Auburn University - in 1935.
Dr. Bass worked for the state as a veterinarian in the Panhandle before returning to Live Oak to open Bass Animal Clinic. He belonged to various state, regional and national professional organizations. He served on the Suwannee County School Board for 10 years. Dr. Bass was also a member of Mount Zion Christian Church all his life, serving as a deacon and other officer positions. Survivors include his wife, Verna Lundy Bass of Live Oak; two sons, Andrew Bass and Lundy Bass, both of Live Oak; two daughters, Elizabeth Bolton of Gainesville and Suzanne Bass Parker of Jacksonville; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
