Information on the death of Metheldred Bass, well known farmer of Eugene, and probably the oldest in Cole County, was received here yesterday. He was born in the year Missouri was admitted into the Union.
Bass died last Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. L. Duncan near Eugene, from a complication of diseases incident to old age. He had been ailing for four years.
A few years ago Bass attracted a great deal of attention when he --- to see the first street car in his life. He was then more than --- years old and enjoyed a ride on ---- while visiting in the city.
Bass was born in Barren County Ky., December 6, 1821, and came to Missouri when a youth.
He married Miss Pauline Apperson to which union six children were born. Three of them, one daughter and two sons, survive.
A number of years after the death of his first wife Bass married Sarah Hogg of Cole County. They had two children, both of whom -----. Mrs. Bass died four years ago.
During the last four years Bass had been cared for at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Duncan. He was given every care and attention available.
Bass joined the Church of Christ near his home about 35 years ago, and has been a devout and consistent member of the Mount Union congregation.
Funeral services were conducted by Elder W. H. Scott of Eldon at the Mount Union Church, following which interment was in the cemetery at Hickory Hill.

He was born in the year Missouri was admitted into the Union. Bass died last Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S.L. Duncan, near Eugene, from a complication of diseases incident to old age.
