Horrible English Tragedy

Murderer?s Desperate Suicide
On Thursday night at Shutlanger, a village near Towchester, a horrible tragedy took place, when a man named Charles Bass, aged 26, belonging to the village, entered the house of an old age pensioner named William Robinson, presumably with the object of robbery. Robinson apparently came downstairs, and Bass seized the old many, and with a hedge knife almost cut his head off, death supervening immediately. A married daughter of the deceased, who at the moment entered the house, was attacked by Bass and severely injured by knife wounds, her face in particular being badly cut.
The police were immediately informed of the tragedy, and throughout the night were searching for the murderer. Yesterday morning his body was discovered on the railway at Ashton, and there is little doubt that he committed suicide. The murdered many was 76 years of age.
