Catherine V. Bassett (Picture included)
Catherine V. "Kay" Bassett, 83, of Narragansett, died Sunday. She was the wife of the late Paul E. Bassett, Sr.
Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Gunder O. and Catherine A. (Hart) Haskins.
Mrs. Bassett graduated from the Newport Hospital School of Nursing in 1945 and was a registered nurse working in hospitals and eventually for Rhode Island School of Nursing Alumni Association.
She is survived by her four children, Elizabeth Palmer of Wakefield, Paul Bassett and Herbert Bassett, both of Narragansett, Arthur Bassett of North Smithfield; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Arthur, Walter and Zita Haskins.
The funeral will be 9 a.m. Thursday from the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High St., Wakefield. Burial will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are 4-7 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial donations may be made to Susan K. Komen Fund for the Cure, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Ste. 250, Dallas, TX 75244.
