Leonard Merrill Bass
Leonard Merrill Bass, 90, of Mount Pleasant died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, in Denison.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, at Nevills Chapel Baptist Church with Bro. Glenn Griffith officiating. Interment will follow at Wards Creek Community Cemetery in Bowie County under the direction of Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home.
He was born on Dec. 2, 1918 at County Line near Dalby Springs, the son of Wesley Leon Bass and Nora Lee (Sledge) Bass. He was an insurance agent for American National Reliable Life and worked for Purolator Courier for 16 years until his retirement. He was a resident of Mount Pleasant since 1952 and a member of Nevills Chapel Baptist Church for the past 20 years. His health forced him to move recently to Denison where he was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Denison.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Nora and Rusty Denny of Denison, and Lana and Glen Kocurek of Carthage; two sons and daughters-in-law, Merrill and Emma Bass and Gary and Paula Bass, all of Mount Pleasant; 17 grandchildren and 13 spouses; 37 great-grandchildren and four spouses; and 12 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Oleta and E.L. "Speedy" Thrift and Sally Ruth Dobson, all of Mount Pleasant; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Lucy Ann (Barrett) Bass; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Gilmore Bass; a grandchild, Wetzel Bass; three great-grandchildren; his parents; a sister, Naomi Bass; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
The family will receive friends from 7 - 9p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at the funeral home.
