Mescal W. Bassett
Mrs. Mescal W. Bassett, 81, a resident of Britthaven of Davidson Nursing Home and formerly of Bryan Street, died Monday, January 7, 2008 at the nursing home. She was born in Schoolfield, VA, May 23, 1926 a daughter of Spicer Williams and Ella Mae Johnson Williams and had been a resident of this area most of her life. She was a homemaker and was of the Holiness faith. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother and will be missed by all that knew her. She was married to George Edward Bassett who preceded her in death. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Millie B. Shelton and her husband Ferrell, Ms Mary B. Foley, Ms Barbara B. Kinley, and Ms Bunnie B. Colbert, all of Thomasville; a son, Daniel M. Bassett of Thomasville; a brother, Bill Williams and his wife Barbara of Lexington. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Ruth Bassett, by a son, James Earl Bassett, and by a sister, Mrs. Doris W. Burchette. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 PM at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Kenneth L. Hemrick and Rev. Mike Weatherald. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 until 8 PM and other times at the home of a daughter, Bunnie Colbert, 1008 Ferndale Drive, Thomasville.
