Retired as machinist from Barber-Coleman Co. after 22 years of employment. Former member of the Masons, Freeport Consistory and Tebala Shrine Temple. Survivors include his daughter, Judith M. (Salvador) Varisco of Leaf River; two sons, John A. Rice of Arizona, and Gerald W. (Josephine) Rice of Rockford; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; half brother, C. Robert Johnson of Prineville, Ore. Also predeceased by sister, Marion Dougherty. Services at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, in Fred C. Olson Mortuary, 1001 2nd Ave., with the Rev. Donald V. Long of Broadway United Methodist Church officiating. Burial in Cedar Bluff Cemetery. Visitation from 12:30 p.m. until service Friday at the mortuary.
