Obits For Life, Lloyd Bassett
October, 2011
Passed away on October 15th, 2011 at Pioneers Lodge with his family by his side. Lloyd, at the age of 77, beloved husband of Gloria for over 56 years, loving father of Brent (Cathie), Denise Beckett (Paul) and Larry (Tara). Lloyd will be lovingly remembered and missed by his 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Lloyd was born to Frederick and Evelyn Bassett on October 21, 1933 on the family farm near the village of Gilbert Plains, Manitoba. He grew up attending a small country school, and graduated from high school in Gilbert Plains. He continued his education attending college in Winnipeg and graduating as a Stationary Engineer. Lloyd was married to his high school sweetheart, Gloria Peckham and the couple began their family in Winnipeg just as he was finishing college. The young couple and their newborn son Brent moved to Moose Jaw in 1955 to fill a Stationary Engineer?s position at the Base. He worked diligently in various capacities over the years and eventually became a supervisor. He retired after 35 years of faithful service at the base, and at only 55 years of age, ventured into new directions. He and some partners owned several apartments around town, and there was always work to be done renovating and maintaining the buildings. He was a master woodworker, cabinetmaker, many of his projects furnishing the homes of his family and friends. He was the kind of guy that became an expert at whatever he laid his hand to. Although he developed many interests in life like hunting and fishing, family was the most important to Lloyd. He valued time well spent with his children and grandchildren, but especially enjoyed his and Gloria?s annual tradition of vacationing in Mexico. At home in Moose Jaw, they enjoyed many dances and leisurely afternoons? lawn bowling. Lloyd enjoyed the challenge of a good puzzle like Soduko, but also faced more serious challenges in life with courage and dignity. In the last few years, he faced many health challenges, but he maintained a positive attitude and remained an inspiration to his family and friends. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 21, 2011, at Parkview Funeral Chapel with Rev. Marvin Seaborg officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Blair Scott, Funeral Director.
