Dorothy Bassett Hines
SMITHFIELD - Dorothy "Sis" Bassett Hines, 96, left her earthly home, Saturday, January 31, 2015, peacefully, in her sleep. Formerly of Rescue, she was the daughter of the late, Thomas Simpson and Clara V. Foster Bassett. She was a member of Battery Park Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Melvin Hines; her son, Paul Franklin Hines; and a grandson, Blake McClenny. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, George Melvin Hines (Sharon), Robert Simpson Hines (Paula) and her daughter-in-law, Harriet Hines; her grandchildren, Sue McClenny , Melvin Hines, Elizabeth Darden, Carson Hines, Bobbie Lynn Perkins, Teresa Ross, and Sheryl Goodwin, 9 great grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. A graveside funeral service will be held 2 pm, Sunday, February 8, at the Battery Park Cemetery with Rev. Alan Hogge officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at 897 Talbot Drive, Smithfield, The family extends their gratitude to a dear friend, Joyce Green, and to the staff at Riverside Convalescence Center, Smithfield, and suggests memorial donation may be made to Battery Park Baptist Church, PO Box 58, Battery Park, VA 23304 or the charity of one?s choice.
