Born Dec. 23, 1923, in Cleveland, he lived in Willowick before moving to Mentor 30 years ago. He was a member of the Painesville Exchange Club, was a World War II Army veteran and was an avid golfer and loved to fish. Mr. Bassett was the former owner and operator of the Bassett Carpet Company in Painesville for more than 30 years. Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Beatrice May (Secunde); daughters, Sandra (Thomas) Abromaitis of Leroy and Nancy (Paul) Roach of Concord Township; son, Bruce (Sharon) Bassett of Mentor; granddaughter, Carrie Bassett; and brother, Walter (Joni) Bassett of Tampa, Fla. His parents, Walter and Ruth Bassett, are deceased. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
