He was born July 1, 1939, in North Baltimore, Ohio, and came to Sarasota 52 years ago from there. He had owned and operated Bassitt Automotive in Sarasota since 1961. He graduated from Manatee High School in 1958, and graduated from the Nashville Auto and Diesel College. He was a charter member of Beneva Christian Church. He was a member of Elks Lodge 2495. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Reta K.; two daughters, Julie Gramman and Kathy Varsalona, both of Bradenton; a sister, Linda Loden of St. Petersburg; a brother, Larry of Bradenton; his mother, Leona of Bradenton; and three grandsons. Visitation will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, with the service to follow, at Beneva Christian Church. Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Gulf Gate Chapel, is in charge.
