Gene Seeger
Gene Seeger, 90, of New Douglas, Illinois, died at 2:15 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at St. John's Hospice in Springfield Illinois. He was born Monday, April 25, 1921 in Bond County, Illinois, the son of Fred and Minnie (Peterson) Seeger.He married Delsie M. Bassett on August 10, 1940 in St. Charles, Missouri. She preceded him in death on Tuesday, August 5, 2008.He worked for 22 years as the owner/operator of Gene's Mobile Home Sales in Altamont and Litchfield, Illinois. Gene was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a PFC (Medical Tech) from October 1944 to April 1946.He was a member of New Douglas Baptist Church in New Douglas, Tobius Bilyeu American Legion Post 710 in New Douglas, and the New Douglas Senior Citizens.He is survived by two daughters: Sharyn Kline (Robert) of Hamel, Illinois and Linda Bentlage (Nelson) of New Douglas; five grandchildren: Robin Phelps (Val) of Dallas, Texas; Kristi Gonzalez (Carlos) of Houston, Texas; Steve Bentlage (Gay) of New Douglas, Dennis Bentlage (Angie) of New Douglas and Kevin Bentlage (Angie) of Staunton; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Martha Graff, of New Douglas and nieces and nephews.In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Goldie Schweppe, Pearl Pakovich and Helen Cory; two brothers: Virgil Seeger and Fred Seeger.Visitation will be on Sunday, July 10, from 1 p.m. until time of services at 3 p.m. at Lesicko Funeral Home, 271 N 2nd Street, Livingston, Illinois, 62058. The Reverend Stephen Disney will officiate. Interment will be at New Douglas Cemetery in New Douglas with military honors provided by the Staunton Veterans Honor Guard.
