Luther Phillips (1924-2015) (Picture included)
Luther (Louie) Lewis Phillips of Loveland passed away on March 9, 2015. He was born on October 27, 1924 in Osborne, Kansas to Verner C. and Winnie B. (Rowe) Phillips. He was raised in Colorado. His family were farmers in eastern Colorado. Louie's first marriage was to Francis Lucille Bassett. They had one son. In 1950 Louie married Delaine A. Kitzman. They had 4 sons. They lived in Nebraska and moved to Loveland in 1952. Louie served in the Army from 1943-1946 as a medic in the Pacific Theatre. He was a Construction Foreman for G.H. Phipps, Reed Burton, and Hensel Phelps Construction, all in Colorado. He owned and operated the East Side Bargain Shop in Loveland. He was involved with the boy scouts. He was a leader and enjoyed many years with the boys camping and fishing. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, camping, going to gun shows, and garage sales. Most of all he enjoyed being with his family. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Delaine, 3 sons, Elvin, Herbert (Tammy), John, all of Loveland, 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 4 great great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 1 brother and 1 sister in-law in North Carolina along with many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 siblings, 2 sons, and 1 grandson. Memorial service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 10am, located at Kibbey Fishburn Funeral Home, 1102 Lincoln Avenue, Loveland, CO 80537. Memorial contributions may be made to VFW post 41 or Trinity United Methodist Church in care of Kibbey Fishburn Funeral Home.
