Helen Winslow
Helen Winslow, 74, of 130 W. Newell St., died Sunday at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Winslow was a native Syracusan. She was a descendant of Albion Jackson, the first white child born in Syracuse, Dec. 28, 1800.
He was born in a log cabin on the site of the Yates Hotel at East Washington and Montgomery Streets. He later became a farmer in what is now Onondaga Valley.
Mrs. Winslow was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. She and her husband celebrated their 58th anniversary recently. Mrs. Winslow also was an avid bingo player.
Surviving are her husband, Robert W.; eight daughters, Barbara MacNaughton of Little York, Beverly North of Chittenango, Carol Kelley of Solvay, Diane Charima of Fayetteville, and Charlotte Witek, Helen Becker, Betty Emm and Marilyn Voutsinas, all of Syracuse; eight sons, Robert Jr. of Liverpool, Donald of Van Nuys, California, Raymond of Jamesville, Harold of Cicero, Larry of Baldwinsville, and Ronald, William and David, all of Syracuse; three sisters, Alberta McSweeny and Ella Mae Colabufo, both of Syracuse, and Marion Maxam of Phoenix, Oswego County; three brothers, Donald, Harold and Gerald Bassett, all of Syracuse; 62 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at a time to be announced at the Butler-Badman Funeral Home and in St. Anthony of Padua Church. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today (Dec. 3) and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
