Mary Katheryn Bassett, 86, of Moline, formerly of Rock Island, died July 11, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, with a visitation one hour prior to service time, at Faith Walk World Outreach Center, Silvis. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Faith Walk World Outreach Center, Silvis, or a charity of choice. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Moline, is assisting the family.
Mary was born Aug. 23, 1919, in Lock Springs, Mo., to Orville and Maude Chapman Hampton. She married James E. Bassett March 2, 1952, in Trenton, Mo. He preceded her in death April 11, 1982. Mary was a machine operator for thirty years for F.W. Means Co., retiring in 1981. Mary was a former member of Moline Gospel Temple, where she was a Sunday school teacher and helped serve church luncheons. She was a former member of the Rock Island Moose Lodge. She enjoyed embroidery, lawn work and gardening. Mary had many friends from her lifelong and continued interest and support of her churches and was an avid quilter. Mary and her family greatly appreciate her special friend Diane Harter and her family, who were very generous with their support and love, as well as special caregiver Elizabeth (Libby) Ringer. She is survived by her nephews, Chuck (wife, Judy) Hampton, Donald Ray Hampton, Bob Hampton, Jack Hampton and Gene Hampton, special great-niece, Kirstin Hampton Stalker, all of California; as well as other great and great-great nieces and nephews.
