Eddie Simmons Jr.
Simmons Jr., Eddie 87, passed away peacefully, Friday, April 4, 2014 after a long illness at Meadowbrook Manor in Naperville. He was born in West Palm Beach, FL and lived in Aurora for 54 years. Eddie was a World War II Veteran and served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines. He did so much for his community and will be truly missed. Survivors include his wife, Emma Yvonne Simmons of 25 years; daughters, Eddie Ruth Jackson of Fort Worth, TX, Shirley Simmons of Smyrna, GA, Catherine Muhammad of Lilburn, GA, Jacqueline Simmons of Oak Park, IL; son, Eddie Sundiate (Lynette) Simmons of Lithonia, GA; stepsons, Anthony (Deidra) Dennie of Mableton, GA and Rodney Holmes of Bellville, IL; sisters, Willie Jane Simmons of Eastman, GA and Rose (Charles) Henley of Cleveland, OH; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Dennie and Varonda Landry of St. Louis, MO, Bertha Simmons of Chicago, IL; brothers-in-law, Bobbie Dennie of Batavia, IL and Henry Williams of Gaithersburg, MD; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Friday, April 11, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Homegoing Celebration 11:00 a.m. at DuPage AME Church, 4300 Yackley Ave., Lisle, IL 60532. Burial will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Pl., Aurora, IL 60506.
