Rita Jean (Long) Bassett
Rita Jean (Long) Bassett, 92, of Washington Township, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2026 in QLS-Apollo.
Born August 28, 1933 in Vandergrift, she was the daughter of the late Paul K. and Edna (Kline) Long, Sr. Rita was a graduate of Vandergrift High School.
She grew up in Armstrong County and moved to Virgina Beach for several years. Rita was employed by the Virginia Beach School District as a cafeteria manager and bus driver where she retired from in 1987. She also held a position on the Virginia Beach School Board. Rita moved back to Washington Township in the year 2000.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Apollo.
Rita enjoyed traveling, fishing, crocheting, and bingo.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, Quetin D. Bassett in 1991; and brothers, Paul and Jerry Long.
Rita is survived by her children, Cindy D. (Gary) Miller of Avonmore; Michael (Gisela) Bassett of Jeannette; James (Janet) Bassett of Slauda, VA; Kim "Bear" (Cindy) Bassett of Mt. Airy, NC; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; family members and friends.
At Rita's request all viewing and services will be private in the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 100 Owens View Ave. Apollo, PA. Private burial in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell, PA.
