Margaret S. Bassett
NEWMARKET - Margaret S. Bassett, 97, of The Pines of Newmarket, died December 26, 2014 at The Pines after an extended illness.
Born in Lee on August 17, 1917, she was the daughter of George C. and Bertha H. (Sewall) Gregory. A lifelong resident of Newmarket, she was a 1935 graduate of Newmarket High School.
Margaret was a medical receptionist for many years for Dr. Irving Brown and then for Dr. Alfred Bates.
She was a past patron of Eastern Star Orient Chapter #22 in Exeter.
Margaret enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Old Towne Squares of Newburyport, and the Line Dance Group of Kittery and Newmarket.
An active member of the Newmarket Community Church, she served on the Living Memorial Committee and was past president of the Parish circle. She was also a member of the Newmarket Historical Society.
She was predeceased by her husband Harry W. Bassett who died in 1990, and by her sister Alice M. Stevens in 2004.
A visiting hour will be held at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter Street, Newmarket, on Monday, Dec. 29th from 11 a.m. until noon and followed by a noon Funeral Service at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Newmarket.
Memorials may be made in Margaret's name to the Living Memorial Fund, C/O Newmarket Community Church, 137 Main Street, Newmarket.
