Robert Bassett, 77, Rapid City, died Nov 10. Services: 10:30 AM, Nov 14 at First Lutheran Church, Mitchell, SD. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Thursday evening at the Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell, SD.

Robert ?Bob? Bassett
RAPID CITY | Robert LeRoy "Bob" Bassett, 77, formerly of Custer and Mitchell, passed away Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at home.
Bob was born Dec. 29, 1936, in Watertown to Loren and Mona (Goodrich) Bassett. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1954 and enlisted in the United States Navy. He spent most of his enlistment in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1957.
He married Mary Ellen Prickett in November 1960 in Mitchell. After living in different cities, Bob moved his family to Mitchell, where he became a letter carrier for the United State Post Office. Mary Ellen passed away on Mothers Day 1977. On August 18, 1979, Bob married Gladys Miller in Mitchell.
He retired from the Post Office in 1992, and he and Gladys moved to Custer.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and golfing and was a member of the Community Lutheran Church in Custer, the First Lutheran Church in Mitchell and the American Legion Post in Mitchell.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys, Rapid City; his children, Deb (Mike) Shannon, Brett Bassett, Chris Bassett (Kevin Neugebauer) and Tim (Tammy) Bassett, all of Mitchell, Toni (Chad) Weber, Dimock, SD, and Pam (Mark) Armentor, Rockport, TX; his stepchildren, Marilyn Forst and Cheryl Miller (Ken Pufpaff), all of Mitchell, Les Miller (Pam), Imperial, MO, Gene Miller (Mary), Box Elder, and Dan (Gretchen) Miller, Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren; 14 step grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Marion Prickett, Mitchell; his sister, Maralyn (LeRoy) Twombley, Brookings; and a special family member, Michelle Meservey, Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ellen; his parents; his father-in-law, Vernon Prickett; and his son-in-law, Dick Forst.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Serenity Springs Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Craig Wexler of the Community Lutheran Church in Hill City officiating.
A visitation will be offered from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. CST Thursday, Nov. 13, at Bittner Funeral Home in Mitchell.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, in Mitchell, with interment at the American Legion Cemetery in Mitchell, with military honors.
A memorial has been established to the Community Lutheran Church in Hill City and the Humane Society in Custer.
