He was the husband of Phyllis Bassett. Born in West Yarmouth, Mr. Bassett was a painter for 35 years before retiring. He enjoyed nature and wildlife. Besides his wife, survivors include two half sisters, Gloria Barabe of Kingston and Ruth Pina of Hyannis; a half brother, Lenny Bassett of Dennis; two stepsons, George W. Kalweit of Centerville and James L. Kalweit of Raleigh, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Cathy A. Wittenmeyer of West Barnstable; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Services are private. Memorial donations may be made to West Barnstable Rescue; or to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 270 Communication Way, Hyannis, MA 02601.
