Barbara Bassett Jansen (Picture included)
Barbara Bassett Jansen. Born on Dec. 15, 1920, she passed away on May 31, 2009, with her family by her side. Survived by her loving children Richard (Phillis) and Elizabeth Jansen, her granddaughters Kate and Leigh Jansen; her ?second? longtime loving daughter Sarah Ball, and many nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by Jarol, her adoring husband of 58 years. Barbara was a third-generation Sacramentan. She graduated from Sacramento High School and Stanford University, where she met Jarol. When Jerry went off to WWII, Barbara waited until he returned; they married in 1946 and moved to his hometown of Lincoln, Calif., where they lived a wonderful life together with many friends and family. Barbara was devoted to her family and her community. Although Barbara suffered from a long illness, she faced it with the same grace and courage with which she lived her entire life. The family wants to express their eternal gratitude to her caregivers including Karen Rivera, and especially Joy Parker, whose care and devotion made an enormous difference in Barbara's life. A memorial service will be held for Barbara Jansen on June 12, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, 6th and I streets, in Lincoln. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Friends of the Library or the Shriners Hospital for Children.
