Saline Adelle C. (Date) Renton was called into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, April 27, 2017. Date was born in November 1923 to Andrew and Emma (nee Snyder) Campbell in Ypsilanti, Michigan. She was married to George A. Renton, who survives. She is also survived by sons Rob (Ann) Bassett, Joe Bassett, Scott Bassett, Frank (Cheryl) Renton, and daughters Barbara (Trond) Aronsen and Ann (Guy) Chapman. Also surviving are her sisters, Elizabeth (Betty) Katz, Judy Elwartowski, and her brother, Dan Campbell. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Garnet Miller. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, as well as twenty-six great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Date attended Carpenter Road School, graduated from Ypsilanti High School, and attended Cleary College on scholarship following graduation. She was one of thousands of "Rosie the Riveters", working at the Bomber Plant at Willow Run during World War II, followed by a stint at Kaiser-Fraiser Automotive. She also worked for the late Arthur Allen, MD, and the Washtenaw County Medical Society. In September of 1967, she married George A. Renton, of Belleville, MI. They combined their households and lived in Saline, Michigan. In 1973 they retired to "The Hideaway" in Good Hart, MI, where they enjoyed thousands of sunsets over Lake Michigan and visits from family and friends from all over the country. In 1997, they moved into Harbor Springs where she kept an eye on Petoskey from the bluffs above Wequetonsing. Date was a founding member of the Saline Fun Club in the '50's and helped raise money for many charitable organizations through their euchre tournaments. She and George were also founding members of the First Baptist Church of Saline in the late 1960's, helping to establish the church and build their first permanent facility. In her Northern Michigan years, she was an avid golfer, and with her sister, Betty once won the State Grange doubles title. Date and George were members of the Petoskey-Bayview Country Club, and later at the Birchwood Country Club. They also were founding members of the New Life Anglican Church in Petoskey. Memorials in Date's name can be made to the New Life Anglican Church, 291 State Street, Petoskey, MI 49770, or to the Little Traverse Conservancy, 3264 Powell Road, Harbor Springs, MI 49740. In accordance with her family's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service is planned for a later date.
