  Notes	Oakland Tribune, California, December 6, 1926 Noted Banker Dies In Sleep SACRAMENTO, Dec. 6 ? Walter W. Bassett, president of the Capital National Bank here and one of the most widely known financiers in the Sacramento valley, died here early this morning in his sleep at the Sutter hospital. Bassett had been under treatment for inflammatory rheumatism. Bassett had a picturesque career, starting as a grocery clerk in this city. In 1892, with Sparrow, Smith a Sacramento character, as a partner, he founded the Capital Trust Company. This he sold to Alden Anderson, and associate; George W. Peltier and F.W. Kissel in 1905, being retaine as manager. He succeeded Anderson as president of the Capital National Bank in January of the present year. The latter institution was the out-growth of the Capital Trust Company, being organized in 1911. Bassett was in the banking business for forty years. He was a Mason and state treasurer of the grand lodge of Eagles. The banker is survived by a brother, George C. Bassett, of Sacramento, and two sisters, Mable Bassett, also of Sacramento, and Mrs. F. E. La Shelle of Oakland. The funeral will be held tomorrow from the banker?s home, 818 Fifth street. Interment will be private.
