Henry W. Bassett
A former employee of the International Nickel Co., Henry W. Bassett, 79, died Saturday at Foley's Nursing Home, Garson, following a lengthy illness. Born in Port Hope, Ont., Bassett was raised and educated there and began his career as an apprentice in a mechanical department of boiler making. He came to Sudbury while still a young man beginning work with the Mond Nickel Co, then later with Inco. Working in the Coniston smelter until his retirement in 1958. Bassett continued to live in Coniston until being admitted to Garson nursing home two years ago. His wife, the former Mary Uttley, whom he married in 1918 died in march, 1959. A daughter Mrs. Dorothy Bronicheski, died in January, 1972 and a son, Wilfred, died in November, 1972. He is survived by: two daughters, Marion Cyr, of North Bay and June Koebel, of Waterloo; 30 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. The body is at Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch St. where funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, with Rev. J.A. Filshie officiating. Interment will be in Sudbury Park Lawn Cemetery.
