Farnhamville - Margaret Mary Bassett, 86, peacefully departed this life at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, Iowa on November 3, 2008 surrounded by her family.
The memorial service will be conducted at the First United Church of Farnhamville at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 6, with Pastor Crystal Oberheu officiating. Graveside services will follow at the Rosehill Cemetery in Menlo. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5 at the Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie, and for one half hour prior to the memorial service.
Margy was born in rural Adair county, on March 5, 1922, the ninth of ten children to William and Ella Draman. She graduated from Stuart High School in 1940. She was united in marriage to Emmett Bassett on June 7, 1941. In 1949 they moved to Farnhamville, which was their home for nearly sixty years. Her careers included rural school teacher, postmaster and her best role as mother and grandmother. She was a member of the TTT, Eastern Star, Rainbow, American Legion Auxiliary, Betterment Club of Farnhamville and the United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one brother, Jack Draman of Colorado; daughter, Mary Jo (David) Maupin of Solon; son, Robert (Kathryne) Bassett of Iowa City; granddaughter, Allison (Brennan) Beck of Neenah, Wisconsin; grandson, Jonathan Bassett of Austin, Texas and numerous relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Emmett; three sisters and five brothers.
It can truly be said that her thoughtful and lovable nature enabled her to be a loving wife, mother and grandmother. None knew her but to love her because she herself knew so well how to be a true loving friend.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
