Dorothy Jean Walther

Dorothy Walther age 65 of Baker, passed Sunday night July 7, 2013. She was born in Florala, AL on May 7, 1948, and has been a long time resident of North Okaloosa County. Dorothy was a member of First Baptist Church of Laurel Hill, and attended Crestview Community of Christ. Dorothy was the Director of Community of Christ Soup Kitchen, a Sunday school and Bible teacher. She was the treasurer for camp S.K.A.M.P., a camp for special needs children. Dorothy also assisted with the cold night shelters, a band parent chaperone, worked as a substitute teacher. For many years Dorothy was the bookkeeper for Heileg Myers Furniture, and the office manager at Florida Microfilm and Office Supply. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Tommy Walther and her parents Lola Mae and Clayton Peters.
Survivors include her children: son Dewayne Walther and daughter Renee Walther, Uncle Audrey Ludlam and Aunt Jewel Ludlam, and Cousin Leisa Ludlam. Sister in law Ann Sprague and husband Chuck, niece Susan Geering and husband Chet, grandnieces: Paige, Colleen, and Riley Geering, and nephew Bobby Sprague. Also surviving are numerous cousins and extended family and many friends.
A time of visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. The celebration of Dorothy?s life will be on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Community of Christ, with burial to follow in the Almarante Cemetery. Flowers are accepted or you can make donations to Camp SKAMP, P.O. Box 216, Baker, FL 32531, in Dorothy?s memory.
